Supporting Ukrainian refugees with free helpline interpreting

We have been appalled by the conflict in Ukraine and have seen first-hand how the ongoing violence is forcing people to leave their homes, with many seeking safety in the UK. To help support those fleeing Ukraine we are working with Barnardo’s, providing free interpreting services for their Ukrainian Support Helpline.

Our interpreting services can play a key role for people fleeing conflicts, helping them to access the services they need (and are entitled to) even if they do not speak English.

Earlier this year, we worked with Barnardo’s to support their Boloh Helpline, offering pro bono interpreting for Pashto and Dari to directly help those fleeing Afghanistan. When Barnardo’s told us they were launching a helpline to support Ukrainian refugees we knew we wanted to help.

Ukrainian refugees primarily speak Ukrainian or Russian, and we are supporting the Barnardo’s Ukrainian Support Helpline by providing pro bono interpreting for these languages.

The Barnardo’s Ukrainian Support Helpline

Barnardo’s established the helpline following discussion with the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain. It provides a holistic support service and is available to anyone fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.

The helpline can offer:

– Therapy with a qualified psychotherapist, delivered via the phone or online

– Advice from trained support workers on issues such as housing, health services, education, and employment.

– Practical support, for example access to digital devices that can ensure families stay connected, stimulating toys for children, vital baby items, and more.
