Clear Voice is a social enterprise and, to be honest, this makes us pretty unique amongst language service providers. When you use Clear Voice’s services you can do so knowing that we give 100% of our profits back to our parent charity, Migrant Help. We also run the InPower Project which fully funds refugees through the vocational education they need to become professional interpreters.
This means that every time you need a phone call interpreted, a document translated or British Sign Language support, you are helping refugees take a vital step towards building a new career and you are contributing to the charity work and social projects that Migrant Help undertake.
But how does the money we donate to Migrant Help get used?
Some of it is used to fund vital infrastructure, like purchasing a safehouse for the survivors of modern slavery. This will improve the standard of care Migrant Help are able to offer these individuals and gives them more control over the services they can offer.
The money is also used to support and deliver distinct social projects. Whether they are delivering practical support or providing much needed resources, these initiatives make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable people across the UK. Sometimes these projects are implemented by Migrant Help alone, sometimes they are achieved through close collaboration with partner charities and organisations, extending their impact.
Here are three Migrant Help projects that have been made possible thanks to Clear Voice’s donation.
1. Grants to Happy Baby Community
For the past two years Migrant Help has been working with the charity Happy Baby Community to support vulnerable women who are pregnant or have recently given birth. More than 500 women have been supported by the project which offers a full perinatal program and a dedicated birth support line, available 24/7.
The Happy Baby Community perinatal team support approximately 80 women per month through community groups, preparing them for birth and infant feeding. For those who can’t attend in person, online sessions are also offered.
To support this project, Migrant Help has given £360,000 in grants to the Happy Baby Community.
2. Funding sixty Community Hubs
Migrant Help’s Community Hubs project, now entering its third year, provides grants to external organisations and partners to transform existing drop-in services for asylum seekers and refugees into more comprehensive Community Hubs.
To date, these grants have funded over 60 hubs, with £240,000 provided in total. The hubs give asylum seekers and refugees enhanced access to support services, including employability workshops and conversation cafés that help strengthen their English language skills. They also deliver lifestyle and wellbeing activities such as a cookery classes and sports groups.
The transformation of these hubs has been incredibly impactful, enabling thousands of Migrant Help clients to access services and activities previously unavailable to them.
3. Delivering advice to migrant workers through a sector leading app
Migrant workers are often at risk of exploitation and unsure of where they can find reliable support and advice. Providing an easy to access and trustworthy resource of information is a meaningful way of protecting this vulnerable group of people from exploitation.
To achieve this, Migrant Help collaborated with Fifty-Eight Global, the creators of the Just Good Work app, to develop the content and resources available within it.
The Just Good Work app is widely regarded as a trusted source of information for anyone considering working in the UK. It helps jobseekers find work that is safe, profitable and legal, with resources to support them through their entire employment journey.
With Migrant Help’s extensive catalogue of resources now available within a dedicated section of the app, users can easily learn about topics such as recruitment agencies, immigration and visa requirements, fees and charges, and employment rights. Clear Voice translated the content in ten different languages, with both audio and written content available.
Over the last decade, ethical consumption has become ever more important. We are all encouraged to think about the purchases we make and the impact these have on the world, whether that is environmentally, socially or ethically.
At Clear Voice, we think this is just as relevant when choosing a language services provider as it is when deciding on a cosmetics brand or a coffee bean. If you are using Clear Voice’s services, you can do so knowing that the money you are spending is helping us, and our parent charity, to do good in the world. And if you are deciding on a language services provider, we believe you should ask: How do they make a difference?
